The Celtic Stag [Oak with walnut frame, cherry head, backed with burlap.]
In Celtic lore the stag is the companion of the god Cernunnos and represents the eternal cycle of nature manifested in the seasonal shedding and re-growth of antlers. The symbolism of the stag survived the Celts' conversion to Christianity, and in medieval manuscripts the symbolism of the creature was converted to a metaphor for the death and resurrection of Christ. |
