Celtic High Cross [Oak with walnut trim] |
|
In ancient Celtic times spiritual teachings by Druid shamans were communicated through complex mnemonic designs. The cross, to them, expressed belief in the immortality of their souls and their physical rebirth. On an archetypal level the cross symbolizes a bridge to other worlds and higher knowledge. In some interpretations the arms of the cross represents the major elements of the universe: Earth--Air--Fire--Water, which are held together at the center and unified by Balance. |
