THE THREE WHO KNOW

This Celtic design of three stylized animals in a circle is found in the 8th century illuminated manuscript The Book of Kells.  Celtic imagery emphasized zoomorphic interlaced designs which represented the denseness of the forests they lived in.  The spiral is an archetypal symbol of the continuous cycle of life, death, rebirth.  Animals were depicted in stylized form and symbolized prophetic knowledge, for animals sense things unseen by men.
