The Power of Two

In this Navajo design the chief holds his bow and arrow as symbols of his masculine power.  Next to him his wife holds an arrow indicating her support of him.  But she is elongated in the design, on  three sides, adding to her total wifely support and commitment to him.  But she does not enclose him entirely, because she needs to allow him his freedom to be his own person.
