Celtic Vision of Life (oak, walnut, cherry) The designs in this piece symbolize the major elements of the Celtic vision of life. The center design is entitled : The Stars of the Universe. In its center is the beginning: three comma-like symbols of original energy that grow and expand into a universe of stars. The top and bottom designs are from the Sutton Hoo burial ship and represent the stairs to the Underworld, step that ascend to and descend from, suggesting the Cycle of Life--which to the Celts was was a perpetual cycle of birth, death, rebirth. The two side panels are the Lion Rampant, national symbol of Scotland. The four corner designs are variations of a single theme: they are circles of overlapping lines that have no beginning and no end--or, The Cycle of Life.
